145 Savu Group, Savu
Ei (sarong)
|
Locale: | Could be either Hubi Ae or Hubi Iki. (Motif not restricted.) |
Period: | 1950 |
Panels: | 2 |
Design: | Ei raja. Main motif probably (variation on) lehu which is not restricted to any group. Repeated thrice in each panel, in conformity with tradition. The sarong is marked with a little zigzag in white thread at the top left corner, bunga wurumada, signaling completion of the ceremony required after the weaving and before sewing the cloth into a sarong. |
Size: | 53.5 x 163 cm (21 x 64.1 in) |
Weight: | 710 g (407 g/m2) |
Yarn: | Cotton, hand-spun, medium |
Comment: | Excellent weaving, tight patterning. Cloth has a somewhat sturdy feel due to the fairly heavy hand spun cotton. Weight is well over the average for Savu. A full asli Savu sarong with natural dyes only and a very pleasant, warm tonality. |
