Design: Eight full lengths portraits of crowned Queen Wilhelmina surrounded by crowns and climbing lions. Midfield with patola-inspired jilamprang motifs. Dark and light indigo and morinda red on ecru. Hinggi of exceptionally generous dimensions featuring Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, the last colonial power figure, sitting straight up as in a gala photograph, surrounded by lions and other Dutch heraldic symbols. The central section has a patola inspired pattern, clearly modeled after jilamprang, which on Sumba is reserved for use by royal families.
Comment: Weaving as fine as it is done on Sumba. Saturated colours create high contrast. Note that the kababil border, was done in red white and blue, the colours of the Dutch flag. This may reveal that it was made for the Dutch market, or that in the weaver's milieu, upper class, warm feelings were held towards that red, white and blue - feelings that were more wide-spread than is often believed. Queen Wilhelmina was very popular in the upper crust of the Dutch East Indies, as was Queen Emma before her.
