MICROSCOPIC DETAILS OF PC 349Magnification factor: 800-1000xTimor, West Timor, Mid 20th c. Cotton, machine made, used double ply in the ikated areas, quadruple ply in the red and yellow couloured bands. Note that the colour of yarn under a microscope with object lighting can appear much brighter than it is in reality. Variations within sets occur because photos have been made with two different microscopes, one with 800x and the other 1000x magnification, and with varying colour rendering. Where possible corrections have been made, but in most cases some discrepancy is inevitable. Note also that in spots where the naked eye discovers hardly any colour, for instance in parts dyed yellow or green with non-colourfast vegetable dyes, the remaining pigment crystals tend to light up with often surprising intensity. ©Peter ten Hoopen, 2024.
